This album was produced by Ralph MacDonald and features Marcus Miller on the bass. It’s very funky throughout and has Washington Jr.’s smooth sax playing everything from the silky sound of Making Love to You to a version of Bob Marley’s Jammin’ that is among three tracks employing background vocals. Marcus Miller is excellent, and Ralph MacDonald’s production sounds really great. 1981’s Come Morning was recorded at the same studio as 1980’s Winelight, and is a continuation of the style. There aren’t any standout tracks like Just the Two of Us, but the album is a very good listen. I feel an odd sensation listening to this record and I suspect future descriptions are going to become unrecognizable.
