Jeff Beck performs some fantastic guitar work in Blow By Blow, his first solo album and purely an instrumental one. It sounds very jazzy and funky, mostly due to the drums and the Rhodes, and it is not only a showcase for Jeff Beck’s guitar but full of complementary interplay. It is more jazz than anything, but more lively than jazz-rock from the same time. It was produced by Sir George Martin, Beck enlisted after hearing Mahavishnu Orchestra’s Apocalypse. The album also features Stevie Wonder on clavinet on one of the two songs written by him on Blow By Blow. Recommended for jazz fusion listeners who like guitar-focused compositions. If that’s you, come for the wanky guitar, stay for the superb music.
