N*E*R*D – From the album In Search Of…

Picked this up for a couple bucks, it has four tracks from 2002’s In Search Of… : Truth or Dare (feat. Kelis and Pusha-T), Run To The Sun, Tape You, and Brain. These were some of my favorite tracks on the album, and the hip-hop/rock/funk mix is mostly satisfying on these tracks, which were performed by the band Spymob after an initial release in Europe that was recorded with electronic production was received poorly. Its early 2000’s Neptunes production, which is pretty good, combined with mostly inane lyrical content from Pharell. Tape You demonstrates the developed appreciation of the entertainment value of women that would characterize Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines, but it’s fun, sped-up funk rhythms drive a song about the yearning to…tape women having sex. Side two has instrumental versions of all of the songs.
