This is probably my favorite Steve Khan record. I after first picking up one of his albums for $1 in the jazz section, mostly because of the interesting cover art. I wasn’t that interested in jazz guitarists, but this album has some groove, and moves toward rock a lot more than other fusion/smooth jazz albums. The guitar is definitely blues/rock focused, and the sound itself is really great. Actually, all of the instruments sounds amazing on The Blue Man. The percussion, keyboards and horns are also excellent on this 1978 album that features the Brecker Brothers, Steve Gadd, Don Grolnik and Ralph MacDonald.
