Steve Miller Band – Fly Like An Eagle

Steve Miller Band’s 1976 album showed the trio fully develop their space blues sound, with really catchy guitar riffs, keyboards and lots of effects. Steve Miller formed the band 10 years earlier in San Francisco, and started by playing psychedelic music and blues popular there. It shows in the spacey elements of the title song, but much of the rest is blues played really well by the group. There’s even a Sam Cooke cover. Steve Miller Band is definitely dated, and they are guilty of being ubiquitous on classic rock radio, but the good songs are very good. The album is really worth it just for the title track, and for a legendary takedown of the Black Keys by Steve Miller when he was begrudgingly inducted to the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame.
