The Isley Brothers – The Heat Is On

I love the Isley Brothers, and The Heat Is On is another great album from them, released in 1975 and produced by The Isley Brothers and Cecil and Margouleff. Amazing musicianship and every song is a trip. Side 1 starts with Fight The Power (Part 1 & 2) and keeps one foot heavy in the funk with the other on the gas pedal. It cooks. Side 2 opens with For The Love of You (Part 1 & 2) and sticks to soulful ballads. This was the third album with the 3 + 3 configuration and everyone is in top form here, Ronald Isley sings his heart out while Ernie and Marvin bring it down with some heavy funk. Everything that isn’t a bass guitar or a vocal was performed by Ernie Isley, playing guitar, drums and percussion, or Chris Jasper, on keys and percussion. Truly incredible, I found this for $1 more than once, and bought it more than once. But I can’t give it away because most of my friends don’t own a record player.
