Tale Spinnin’ was released in 1975 and features Leon “Ndugu” Chancler on drums, spending his off-time on this one album while the Carlos Santana group was on a hiatus. Tale Spinnin’ was also the second to feature Alphonso Johnson on electric bass, and the combination of the two produces some really funky grooves like Wayne Shorter’s Freezing Fire. Joe Zawinul’s synthesizer playing is definitely unique, and he plays a lot of synthesizers on this album, including TONTO and an ARP 2600 along with a Rhodes piano. Worth it for any Weather Report fan, and a really good album from their mid-70’s period, though their next couple albums outshine it somewhat. It’s especially notable for contributions from Chancler, whose drums are more prominent than most other Weather Report records. They sold so many in the 70s it’s not difficult to find them.
